Carrier Service: How We Approach Carrier Equipment

Carrier invented modern air conditioning in 1902 and remains an industry leader. Their systems are known for reliability and energy efficiency, making them a popular choice in South Bay homes. For South Bay homeowners with Carrier systems, the priority is finding a service company that actually carries the right diagnostic tools and OEM parts for Carrier equipment — not a generalist who'll order parts after diagnosis and leave you waiting four days.

Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Carrier has earned a strong reputation for Invented modern air conditioning and Greenspeed Intelligence technology. Their flagship product lines — Infinity, Performance, Comfort — represent the bulk of what we service across South Bay homes.

Carrier systems often require specific diagnostic tools for Infinity series. Control board repairs are common on units 8-12 years old.

Predictable Carrier Failure Patterns

Every brand has its quirks. Here are the failure patterns we see most often on Carrier systems in the South Bay climate:

  • Infinity control board failures
  • Compressor issues in older models
  • Refrigerant leaks at service valves
  • Blower motor capacitor failures

Carrier Warranty & What's Covered

10-year parts warranty on most units when registered. Compressor warranties up to lifetime on select models.

When we do warranty work on Carrier systems, we handle the warranty claim paperwork on your behalf — meaning we file the claim, source the OEM replacement part through our distributor, and only invoice you for labor (which is rarely covered under most Carrier parts warranties beyond year one). Manufacturer warranties honored on all parts.

Carrier Models & Efficiency Profile

Up to 26 SEER2 on Infinity 26 models. Variable-speed technology for optimal efficiency.

Popular Carrier models we service in South Bay include: Infinity 26, Infinity 24, Performance 17, Comfort 16. We carry the OEM-spec parts for the most common Carrier models on our service trucks (capacitors, contactors, igniters, common control boards), so most Carrier repairs happen in a single visit. For less-common models, we typically have parts within 24 hours via our distributor.

Annual tune-up, very thorough

Three-year-old American Standard system, on the maintenance plan since install. They check refrigerant subcooling, static pressure (mine was 0.42 in. wc — borderline high, they recommended a return upgrade), and amp draw on the compressor. Cleaned the condenser, blew out the drain pan with shop-vac, replaced the 4" Honeywell media filter. Comprehensive. They actually do what they say they'll do.

No heat at 6 am, fixed by 9

Temperature dropped to 41°F overnight, furnace wouldn't ignite. Called at 6:18 am — tech was at our place by 7:40. Diagnosed a failed pressure switch (proved it with a manometer test), had the OEM Honeywell SmartValve part on the truck, swapped it. Also found a partly-clogged condensate trap was kicking the secondary safety. Fully tested under load before he left. House was 70°F by 9:30.

Ductwork leak test + sealing

Two upstairs bedrooms were always 8°F warmer than the rest of the house. They ran a Duct Blaster pressure test — measured 24% leakage at 25 Pa, way over Title 24's 5% target. Replaced two collapsed flex ducts in the attic, sealed plenum joints with Hardcast 304, and re-tested at 6%. Now the bedrooms hold within 2°F of the thermostat. Real diagnostic work, not guesswork.

New 4-ton system for a 2,400 sqft home

Big house, complicated job — ran the load calc for our 4-ton Goodman 16 SEER2 install. Crew was professional, mostly on time. Had to come back once because a thermostat wire was nicked in the closet. Fixed in 15 minutes, no charge. Final permit signoff went through Carson City permit office without issue. Solid, dependable work — would've been 5 stars without the wire issue.

Service for our 5-ton package unit

We run a small warehouse — Trane voyager 5-ton on the roof, used to take a full day for our last vendor to service. RedAlert sent two techs, did the PM in three hours, replaced two damaged contactor poles, identified an economizer linkage issue, and didn't charge for the linkage fix because they were already in the panel. Pricing is fair, billing is straightforward. Switching all three of our properties to them.

Furnace no-start during cold snap

Naples-area home, 1953 build, 90% AFUE Goodman that's only 4 years old. Tech ran through the ignition sequence on his diagnostic tablet — flame sensor was reading 0.4 µA (needs 1.0+ µA). Cleaned with Scotch-Brite and 320 grit, reading came back to 4.8 µA. Total visit: 35 minutes, $129 service charge. He could have sold me a $190 sensor — instead he showed me how to clean it myself next time.
