“I'd installed an Ecobee Premium myself and the heat pump kept short-cycling. Tech came out, found I'd wired Y2 to a stage-1 unit (no second stage exists), and re-mapped the Ecobee staging. Also adjusted differential and minimum cycle times. System is now running at the manufacturer's published efficiency. He could have replaced the thermostat for double the cost — instead he taught me.
